January 10, 2020 Mission Statement Development

This meeting was devoted to developing a mission statement for Trillium Garden Club.  Becci Dawson-Cox facilitated the discussion with input from all other members in attendance.  Input was collected which will be reviewed by a committee to present final ideas to the club.


December 11, 2019 Holiday Brunch and Gift Exchange

Today's event was held in the home of Mary Clare Huelsmann.  There were 14 members in attendance.  We held the gift exchange and reviewed the program schedule for 2020.

November 13, 2019 Wreath Making

We met at the home of Lou Engwer.  Becci Dawson-Cox demonstrated wreath making using a basic, inexpensive wreaths and adding embellishments such as hydrangeas, grasses, assorted varieties of evergreens, etc.  Each member brought their own trim, ribbon and decorations.  The results were unique to each participant!



October 16, 2019 Annual Business Meeting and Silent Auction

Our annual business meeting concluded with the approval of the officers and committee chairs for 2020.

September 11, 2019 Tea Tasting!

We held a tea tasting event with samplings of members’ favorite ingredients presented by Jessie Tastad and Paula Hemer.  There was a wide variety of herbal teas to taste along with many homemade fruit butters and jams, finger sandwiches and other treats.

There is nothing like a warm, soothing cup of herbal tea made from your own homegrown herbs and the company of wonderful friends to make a morning enjoyable.

August 14, 2019 Arcola Trail Flower Farm Tour

Our tour for Wednesday, August 14th was Arcola Trail Flower Farm. Susan Rockwood and her husband started the business in  2015, when Susan retired from a health care administration career. They grow and sell their cut flowers to floral designers, groceries, brides, or to anyone who needs more flowers! They provide local, organically grown blooms from May to October.

July 10, 2019 Fairy Gardens!

Judy Melander lead a session for all of us to learn how to create a fairy garden.  Materials were purchased as well as donated by several members.  Each attendee was able to create something fun and unique.

June 12, 2019 Anderson Peony & Iris Garden

On June 12 we toured the Anderson Peony and Iris Garden.  They have an amazing variety and it is worth the drive.  The late spring worked to our advantage in that there were many iris in bloom and a variety of colors we had never seen before.

Kids Learn About Gardening Class!

Join members of the Trillium Garden Club on May 4th, 10:30-noon at the Stillwater Public Library as they lead a gardening class for 8-12 year olds and a “favorite” adult. Instruction will include growing pumpkins and sunflowers.

April 10, 2019 Bailey Nurseries Presents Proven Winners for 2019

Debbie Lonnee, of Bailey's Nursery, presented some new and improved plants and shrubs for 2019.  Debbie is a 30-year veteran of the nursery industry.  She is a prolific garden lecturer and the horticulture editor of Northern Gardener magazine.  The slide presentation corresponded with a handout.  Here are two of the featured shrubs!

March 13, 2019 University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences Conservatory.

We toured several of the conservatory rooms which held a wide variety of plants;  from palm trees, various species of cacti, to orchids and a corpse flower.  This facility will soon be razed as a new conservatory is being built in that area.

February 13, 2019 Photographing Your Flowers & Gardens

Terry Butler of Terry Butler Photography was our presenter.  She is a well known photographer and blogger.  We were treated with lovely examples of her expertise photographing flowers and gardens.  The video was a very welcome reminder that our summer isn't that far away.

January 9, 2019 Gardening Tip Sharing and Hobby Discussion

Today's meeting was a round-robin discussion of tips and ideas from members regarding what worked in their gardens including tool recommendations, plants and techniques.  Plus - members shared their non-gardening talents and hobbies by bringing project examples for display.  Here are some examples of "can't live without" tools we discussed.  It was a fun exchange of ideas and knowledge!
